Elimination of Child Labour
5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour
During the week of 16 to 20 May 2022, South Africa will host the Fifth Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour together with the International Labour Organization (ILO). This global event, which takes place in Durban, will help to construct the path toward a world free from child labour.
Ahead of the 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour the ILO, Alliance 8.7 and the ILO International Training Centre are launching a social media campaign to increase the volume of the global call to eliminate child labour everywhere! 160 million children are labourers worldwide today, it is unacceptable but with the right policies and action, we can meet the sustainable development goal of eliminating child labour by 2025.
You can join the #RaiseYourHandforKids campaign, simply by posting a photo of yourself on your favourite social media channel, raising your hand with a smiley face drawn on (with a non-permanent marker!) and a message with the # that you raise your hand for a world without child labour!
How to join the challenge
It's easy! Grab a marker, a phone, and a social media account. Here are 3 simple steps:
- Draw a smiley face on your hand
- Take a selfie with your hand raised
- Post it on social media starting on 5 May with the hashtag #RaiseYourHandForKids and tag 3 friends
We will repost and like as many posts as possible. We can't wait to see your smiles!
