NELSON MANDELA DAY 2019
NELSON MANDELA DAY COMMEMORATED UNDER THE THEME:
“ACTION AGAINST POVERTY” WITH SUB THEMES: “TAKE ACTION INSPIRE CHANGE” & “MAKE EVERY DAY A MANDELA DAY.”
Every year on 18 July South Africans together with the international community honour the former president and international icon Nelson Mandela in the celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day. This day has since its launch in 2009 inspired individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.
It initially started with people being asked to give 67 minutes of their time and later moved on from an ad hoc and individualised initiative towards addressing issues affecting our society. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Nelson Mandela Day and commemorates the milestones achieved while reinforcing the need to continue in the principles of Nelson Mandela by enriching the lives of those in distress and the less fortunate in society.
To honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy and in commitment of Nelson Mandela International Day the South African Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, is once again undertaking its annual activity of helping feed refugees from war-tone areas in collaboration with the Ankara Refugees Lunch Support Group (ARLSG) a self-funding voluntary humanitarian group and the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees (UNHCR). The South African Embassy will assist these organizations with the provision of meals to refugees and displaced persons at UNHCR shelters in Ankara.
The South African Embassy in Ankara in contributing to the spirit of "Nelson Mandela International Day" hopes to reinforce the fight against poverty by encourage the ideals of making everyday a Mandela Day.
YOU CAN HELP CHANGE SOMEONE’S LIFE THIS MANDELA DAY.
The Nelson Mandela Day is a global call to action for people everywhere to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place.
