Welcome Message July 2018
2018 is the year Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela would have turned 100 on July 18th. In honouring Madiba, as he was affectionately known, South Africa and the world will celebrate the centenary year in its journey by marking major milestones and continue his legacy by striving to change the way society treats its children and youth.
Each year on July 18, now known as Mandela Day, South Africans get together for a good cause. The message behind the annual campaign is that each individual can make an impact through public service. Whether volunteering at a homeless shelter or donating food and blankets to the poor, every little bit helps. Nelson Mandela International Day commemorates the lifetime of service Nelson Mandela gave to South Africa and the world.
Through the year 2018, we will share with the world Mandela’s vision and will work to broaden and deepen knowledge about Mandela and his work, support key projects in the fields of education and community outreach, and convene dialogues, particularly around the future we seek to build.
On Wednesday, 18 July 2018 the South African Embassy will partner with Ankara Refugee Lunch Support Group-ARLSG to honour Nelson Mandela Day. The Embassy will assist with the preparation of food for the refugees as well as the distribution thereof at the UN. Anyone who is interested to donate can contact with the Embassy.
We will continue the legacy of Mandela through a number of initiatives, projects and events, and strive to complete some of his unfinished dreams. Mandela Day calls on us all, every day, to make the world a better place. Each year on 18 July we look back on what has been done, and forward to what will be done.
Making every day a Mandela Day celebrates Madiba’s life and legacy in a sustainable way that will bring about enduring change.
TAKE ACTION. INSPIRE CHANGE. MAKE EVERY DAY A MANDELA DAY!
