South African Embassy in Ankara hosted the below SA Exhibitions to promote South Africa-Turkey cultural relations.

FROM APARTHEID TO DEMOCRACY - THE STRUGGLE FOR LIBERATION IN SOUTH AFRICA

The South African Embassy in Ankara, in cooperation with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, hosted an exhibition on South Africa entitled “FROM APARTHEID TO DEMOCRACY - THE STRUGGLE FOR LIBERATION IN SOUTH AFRICA” from 21-30 July 2015 at Cumhuriyet Art Gallery in Taksim, Istanbul. 

This exhibition is mainly about two things, the celebration of an icon in Nelson Mendela, who contributed to what we see South Africa to be today. It is also about the brutal system of Apartheid and how South Africans with the help of of the international community defeated it.

The Exhibition is also displayed in cooperation with the Çankaya Municipality from 1-30 September 2015 at Gallery Çankaya in Kızılay, Ankara. Then the exhibition is displayed at Mersin Chamber of Commerce-MTSO Art Gallery with Honorary Consul of South Africa in Mersin, Mr Numan Olcar between 10-24 December 2015 in Mersin and at K2 Rezidans Art Gallery with Honorary Consul of South Africa in İzmir, Mr Tamer Taşkın between 16-20 January 2016 in İzmir.

OUR TRIUMPHS AND OUR TEARS: WOMENS’ STRUGGLES IN 20TH CENTURY SOUTH AFRICA

The South African Embassy in Ankara, in cooperation with the Çankaya Municipality, hosted an exhibition on South Africa entitled “OUR TRIUMPHS AND OUR TEARS: WOMENS’ STRUGGLES IN 20TH CENTURY SOUTH AFRICA” from 02-29 September 2016 at Gallery Çankaya in Kızılay, Ankara. The guest speaker was one of the leaders of the women's march in 1956 Sophia Williams-De Bruyn. 

This exhibition features various aspects of South Africa’s Women in the struggle for liberation from the Apartheid regime. The Exhibition commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the Womens’ March in 1956 where 20.000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the discriminatory pass laws which had restricted the movement of black people in the country.

The Exhibition is also displayed at Norm Art Gallery with Honorary Consul of South Africa in İzmir, Mr Tamer Taşkın between 17-31 October 2016 in Çiğli, İzmir and at Mersin Marina AVM with Honorary Consul of South Africa in Mersin, Mr Numan Olcar between 15 November-04 December 2016 in Mersin.
