SA Participates at EMITT 2017

South Africa has also produced 9 Nobel Prize Winners (for Peace, Medicine, Literature and Chemistry) and is the only country to have an entire floral kingdom within its borders. The Cape Floral Kingdom contains the most concentrated variety of fauna, 8 500 flowers, the richest variety on earth. South Africa has 23 200 plant species, a greater variety than of the entire northern half of the planet. South Africa is also the strongest financial and industrial power in Africa and has consistently been in the top 10 as one of the world’s most transparent economies.

CAPE TOWN is a world-class tourist destination, renowned as the place where visitors can enjoy a vast array of attractions and experiences in the heart of tourism in South Africa and the African continent. A port city on South Africa’s southwest coast, Cape Town is a city alive with possibilities. Rich in history and natural beauty, the Mother City, as it is commonly known, is a melting pot of cultures and as such offers its visitors tastes, sounds and feelings that can be found nowhere else in the world.

Chosen by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 cities to visit in 2017, the best city for restaurants and bars by Conde Nast Traveller and the cheapest long haul destination by the Telegraph Traveller, Cape Town is world-renowned as a go-to destination for sunshine, vast skies, Blue- Flag beaches, excellent food, abundant wine, world-class accommodation and a diverse melting pot of people that all add up to give Cape Town an allure that will not disappoint.

The Mother City has a sophisticated urban infrastructure and offers diverse attractions from awe-inspiring natural sight-seeing and interesting cultural tours, theatre and events, to excellent fine dining, exclusive sports and world-class shopping. Take a trip through the wine lands in a vintage Rolls Royce or a side-car motorcycle. Flip over the Peninsula in a helicopter for a breath-taking bird’s eye view of Cape Town. Top local restaurants, such as the Test Kitchen (voted one of the top 50 restaurants in the world), are often the playground of well-travelled chefs keen to source abundant fresh ingredients and play with a contemporary infusion of gourmet styles that reflect the inspired Capetonian culinary culture.

There are numerous accommodation establishments that offer everything from serviced apartments, uniquely and proudly locally designed boutique hotels to the soon to be opened Silo Hotel occupying six floors above what will become the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA).

FREE STATE Province has its own unique beauty and is home to key tourist attractions including the Vredefort Dome, a United Nationals World Heritage Site and the world’s oldest and largest meteorite site some 2 billion years old, the Golden Gate National Park, Anglo-Boer War Museums and battlefields, the annual air show in Bethlehem, the Cherry Festival in Ficksburg and the Fauresmith International Endurance Ride equestrian event. The annual Mangaung African Cultural Festival, known as Macule, is hosted in partnership with the Tourism Authority and the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State.

Free State is a province of wide horizons and blue skies, farmland, mountains, goldfields and widely dispersed towns. Mining and agriculture are mainstays of the economy while Free State also produces high-quality diamonds and the country’s largest deposit of bentonite. Bloemfontein, the capital, houses the Supreme Court of Appeal, a leading university and top schools. Some of South Africa’s most valued San Rock Art can be found in the province.

Free State is referred to as South Africa’s “breadbasket “and produces over two-thirds of the country’s grains. The agriculture sector has shown strong growth while the province is the leading producer of bio- fuels, accounts for 30% of South Africa’s gold production, substantial quantities of coal, silver and diamonds, is home to the country’s leading petrochemical company, SASOL and is a major international supplier of solvents and other petroleum-based products.
